Moving Truck Rental Is More Important Than You Might Think

Brochures and torn out yellow page ads littered our counter for days before our last move. I was torn; do you go with the cheaper price? The newer vehicles? The biggest capacity? If you’ve never had to get a a href=http://www.westerntruckrental.commoving truck rental/a yourself and are planning a move, it can be overwhelming, but I learned a few tricks on my own journey that you might benefit from. First of all, if your date is open, you have a better bargaining position.

Trucks are usually reserved in advance, but if you’re moving over a period of days, you can stop in the rental office the day you want to move, and negotiate a lower price for an unreserved vehicle. You do, however, take the risk that there won’t be one available in the size you need, or at all. Check the gas tank, and take pictures of the vehicle with the company sign in view before you leave the lot. Companies will ding you for damage to the truck, and if you end up with an extra $500 on your credit card, you’ll want to have the evidence needed to dispute the charge.

You also need to return the truck with the gas needle in the same position as when you left the lot, or face hefty gas surcharges. Lastly, be sure you have plenty of moving blankets. If you can’t rent them with your truck, pick up cheap second hand blankets and sheets at your local thrift store. Moving trucks are rough inside, not only dirty but with walls that can scratch and damage even the toughest furniture without coverings.

  1. If you are moving across the country or just across town, using a truck rental may be an option that you have looked in to. Renting a truck to move with can solve so many problems before they even occur, weather and theft are just two of the pitfalls of moving.
