Do You Want To Visit Belarus?

Belarus is a busy tourist destination hidden in the eastern half of Europe. Though it is easy to travel there, it is important to understand how the place works so that you are able to see Belarus without much difficulty. The public transportation here is quite cheap. However, do not just look at the prices, and come to a conclusion, as the transport is one of the efficient systems in this part of the world. It is a better idea if you buy tickets before the date of journey, however, if you are traveling by the taxis or marshrukta (mini-bus), it is not necessary to buy tickets in advance.

If you are really looking for cheaper modes of transportation, public buses and trams are also available. However, they may be very crowded in the morning and evening times which are the peak hours for government offices and schools. Minsk is the capital of Belarus and there one can find a cheap and efficient system of transportation, the metro. The taxis are simply awesome and you can reach your destination, wherever that might be in anything less than $5. The same goes with any other town of Belarus. You should call the taxi at your hotel by requesting the staff instead of going and finding it at the street corner. This is because it is better not to go in a taxi with a stranger especially because there are quite a few rogues who are hunting for gullible foreigners.

There are suburban trains which go to the nearest towns from the main train station. It is better if you opt for the buses for traveling within Belarus. They are not only cheap but quick too. Additionally they are quite safe also. If you have to travel for a long distance, then it would be better if you opt for the railways services. The fares are fixed and you don’t get duped. The rails have sleeping coaches so it is helpful especially if you are traveling overnight. Overnight trains from Minsk to Moscow and Kiev are quite good. Warsaw and St. Petersburg are also connected via trains. Flying in Belarus can be an expensive affair. The airports also do not have a good infrastructure ever since the breakdown of former USSR.

Communication can be at times a problem in Minsk. This is because the internet connections are a bit slow. There are several post offices which offer the internet services at cheap rates. If you want to use the public phones then you can use the cards which can be easily bought at the local shops or the news agents. One good thing about the postal office at Minsk is that it provides internet facility for cheap rates round the clock.

If you want to eat food at the restaurants then you are in for a pleasant surprise. The prices here are cheaper as compared to the other European nations. You can even find a few canteens and restaurants where food is supplied at real subsidized levels. The quality of food will also be good. The alcohol beverages are also inexpensive. A typical Belarusian cuisine will comprise of cheese and fish. But vegetarianism is prevalent and mushrooms and potatoes are an important part of the diet.
