About Las Vegas
Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city for shopping, gambling and fine dining, also known as The Entertainment Capital of the World.
Las Vegas has become famous for the number of casino resorts and associated entertainment that it has to offer. The city earned the title of Sin City due to it’s tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment. Geography
Las Vegas is situated on the arid desert floor, surrounded by dry mountains, desert vegetation and some wildlife. Most of the landscape is rocky and dusty, as befits a desert. However, the city itself has a great deal of lawns, trees and other greenery.
Climate
{Las Vegas has an arid desert climate.} With an average of 300 sunshine days per year, the city enjoys abundant sunshine year-round, with very little rainfall. The annual precipitation is around 110 mm and is not uncommon anytime of the year, although it mainly occurs during winter.
Summers
Summer in Las Vegas starts June trough September and are known to be very hot and mostly dry. The average daytime temperatures are between 34°C - 40°C and 21°C and 26°C in the nighttime. Most days in July and August exceed 38 °C but with very low humidity, frequently under 10%.
Winters
Las Vegas’ winters are of short duration and the season is generally mild, with daytime highs near 16°C and nighttime lows around 4°C. Snow is accumulated by the mountains surrounding the city, but snow in the Las Vegas Valley itself is rare. Temperatures can sometimes drop to freezing 0°C.
Economy
A major part of Las Vegas’ economy is based on tourism, also including gambling. The primary drivers of the Las Vegas economy have been the confluence of tourism, gaming, and conventions which in turn feed the retail and dining industries. Several companies involved in the manufacture of electronic gaming machines, such as slot machines, are located in the Las Vegas area.
Tourism
Casinos are the major attractions in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Strip, also known as Las Vegas Boulevard, is home to the most famous hotel casinos. Many of these hotels are massive, carrying thousands of rooms, with their large adjoining casino areas.
